Vegemite: – The Cultural Glue Which Binds Every Australian

Lovers of Marmite will know the ‘Love it or Hate It’ associated with the product. Australians will of course most likely turn their noses up at the inferior product. Instead preferring to ‘put a rose in every cheek’ with Vegemite. If you are Australian you will know the words by heart (or should do!) but will probably not know who (re) invented the iconic Australian product.

We’re happy little Vegemites
As bright as bright can be.
We all enjoy our Vegemite
For breakfast, lunch, and tea.
Our mummies say we’re growing stronger
Every single week,
Because we love our Vegemite
We all adore our Vegemite
It puts a rose in every cheek.

You will be singing this all day now. That and the image of that annoying girl who does not eat with her mouth closed of course. Maybe it is something they ate…

Love the ‘Australian’ accents, the faux nurse with her multiple product name placements, and glad to see ‘little Johnny’ is now enjoying his food. I thought for a minute she was going to suggest rubbing Vegemite on his hives. It is interesting to note how advertisers perceive consumption of their product. Seriously, does ANYONE use this much on their food?

The Vegemite jingle is Australia’s SECOND National Anthem after this of course:
